Thanksgiving Memories

Before Thanksgiving break Mr. Pickens talked to us about making special memories. What memories did you make over the break? What are some special things that you hope you will always look back on? These things may be big things, or they may be small. Everyone's memories will be different! Please write a paragraph listing at least 2 things that were memorable from your Thanksgiving break. Please use correct grammar and complete sentences. This assignment is due Wednesday, November 28th.

My example is listed below:
Thanksgiving with my family is something that I always look forward to. It was extra special this year because I was able to spend so much time at home in Birmingham. One of the memories I made was cooking with my mom and brother. My mom showed us how to make her homemade orange rolls that we have not had in forever! Another thing I will look back on is decorating our family Christmas tree. We always do it together as a family, and the Auburn ornament always goes on first! This year we started decorating the tree really late, and didn't finish until 2:30 a.m.! I am very thankful for these memories because they remind me how much God has blessed me.

  5. I love Thanksgiving ALOT! I love getting to be with my friends and family! Every year, my family goes to my grandparents house! A day before Thanksgiving, me and my family go to Dolly Wood in Servier ville! This year, my favorite ride was Barnstormer. It is when you go on this arm thing and swing back and forth in like a giant swing! I lossed my stomach alot!Se cond, after we go to Dollywood and get back we spend the night in the "stair room" that's what me and my sister call it:0 :) I love when I wake up and know that it is Thanksgiving! In a few hours, after I eat our big breakfast, we have a sandwich. And then we usually watch a long movie like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!:) Then it will be about 3:00 and we feast away! I enjoy my grandma's chocolate pie! It is really YUM! After we are done we write what we are thankful for on the back of a turkey card and then we tape them on a pen and then we read them. It is really fun and exicting! I love my thanksgiving!

1.going to Montgomery for my dad's side of the family (they are very fun)and having Thanksgiving dinner (even though I had to eat Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday this year)and 2.going to a Thanksgiving parade or going to a football game, so pretty much all of those are fun memories to me!:p

  8. Some things I remember about thanksgiving is the strawberry cake my grandmother makes. I love it. This year she let me put sprinkles on it. It turned out that I was the only one who liked sprinkles. Also my brother and I have a contest. It's different every year. My parents don't do it because they're usually watching football or watching my baby brother. This year it was golf. I lost sadly, but at least I had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  9. Thanksgiving is my family's favorite holiday. Where you can eat and talk and praise God. This year was extra special. Our family,my dad, mom, brother, grandmother and me went to Pickwick Pines.Pickwick Pines is a big area where about 400 houses are, all squished together. The houses are like little cabins. The reason why it was so special going to Pickwick pines is, my aunt lives there, and my aunt and uncle are getting divorced so it may be the last time our family gets to go there. My aunt has four boys, their in their twenties, they nor their dad came. So it was just my dad, mom, grandmother, brother, aunt and me. My aunt had just got a new puppy. Her name was Annabel, she was nine weeks.
One memory on Thanksgiving was, our whole family got up and watched the Macy's Day parade. Another was my grandmother always made her secret recipe for gravy. Another was I always help my mom with the mashed potatoes. One memory this Thanksgiving was when my brother tried to drive the golf cart, he was terrible! He went so fast he slung my grandma half way out of the cart, no joke! He even went five feet of the rode and drove in holes!
Another was you know how I was telling you about my aunt's dog? Well,my aunt and I were holding Annabel on the sofa and I gave the dog to my aunt and like five minutes later Annabel jumped out of my aunt's arms and onto the tile floor! I thought she was dead! it was so scary, one second she was in my aunt's hand and then "BAM" she was on the ground! Thank goodness she was okay!
I love thanksgiving, it reminds me of God and everything he has given us, and how we should be thankful for what we have, and not gripe about we want.

I had a very nice Thanksgiving. One of my favorite memories is the food. I really like the sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top. We have had those every year, but it feels like I like them better this year. We also got our Christmas tree. Our new puppy, Zeke, seemed to like it because he would go up in the corner behind the tree, and when my sister would try and get him, he started chasing her around the it. We have to watch him constantly, because he's a puppy and he likes to chew on things, and we don't want him to get the ornaments. I also liked coming together with my family. I hope Christmas will be as fun!

  23. This year, my family and I stayed home, which is very unusual because we always go visit family in Wisconsin. So my memories were very different this year. My first unusual memory was that we put up our Christmas tree up. Normally we would wait till November30th. Dad and i picked out a "Charlie-Brown Tree" meaning we chose a small, plump tree. Mom made all her nice, fragile ornaments go on first. She also made all our ornaments coordinate on the half of our tree facing our nicer living room. The other half of our tree facing the "wreck room", the messier living room we could put them on without having to think, "would that coordinate?"We finished decorating in about 3 hours. My next memory would be watching a movie. This year it was "Brave." My family and I also had apple and pumpkin cheese cake with gingersnap crust. Me, I'm the not-so-pumpkin-pie person, so I had apple instead. I had a wonderful, memorable Thanksgiving!!!!!!

  25. Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday. We go to my Dad's parents house in Texas to celebrate. My Grandma always cooks and my uncle brings the turkey. We used to watch the Texas at A&M game after eating but then A&M got scared and left the conference. After we eat we would all nap until my Grandma called for us to go and decorate her house. My Mom would always have to do the tree because no one else could do it right. Thanksgiving is a great holiday and I can't wait until next year to celebrate again!

  29. My Thanksgiving break was the best there is. First, we went to the mountains, a five hour drive. My cousins came and stayed for one night. Then monday we went mountain biking. It was an eleven mile trail, with bumps, and steep uphill and downhill, without knowing how long it was. Awesome right? Second- I went to my other cousins house Tuesday night. I had BBQ Wednesday, turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and apple pie Thursday, and clam chowder friday. Saturday I went to a creek and explored. Sunday we got up said goodbye and left, and drove eleven hours home. Don't you think that was the best Thanksgiving EVER?

Please reply to that last question.

  31. My family got up early on Thanksgiving day and drove to my grandparents' house in Chattanooga. We all had a wonderful meal that evening at my aunt and uncle's house. One of my favorite memories was when we finally got to eat the delicious pumpkin pie for dessert. The day after Thanksgiving was special to me because my grandfather bought a Christmas tree. My brother and I decorated it with family ornaments. It looked beautiful when we finished. God has blessed me with a loving family.

  32. Thanksgiving was great this year! We stayed home and had the entire family for dinner. I helped mom cook delicious food with Christmas music playing all day. I laughed at mom in her silly apron. We sang along to the music. Most of the time, we didn't exactly know the words which made us laugh even more. Of course, we tasted everything just to be sure it was just right. This year we bought a new 9 foot Christmas tree which looked pretty plain coming out of the box but now every branch is filled with ornaments and sparkles like a real Christmas tree. I love to unwrap all the ornaments one by one because each one tells a different story. When we travel to some place new, we always buy an ornament to remember our adventure. Some ornaments make noise, some are delicate glass, some light up, some are new and some are old. After the big meal, my dad, my brothers, and I put white lights on the house while mom put garland on the porch. By the time we all finished it was dark outside. Feeling very blessed, we all stood in the drive-way as dad flipped the switch.

  33. What i always remember about Thanksgiving is all my family and the delicious food. The food is so good becouse every one has a diffrent tast. Some of my family will like sweet, some would like spicey, or bitter. Something I love about my family at THanksgiving is we always have some kid of givaway. So if you put your name is a bowl you will have a chance to win! I have never one but some of my Aunts and my other family members have. Another thing I love about THanksgivng is some of the people there i have never seen in about 1 or 2 years! I had a good Thanksgiving this year. One of my memories was the taste of my granda's homemade trifle. When I eat it, this is what goes through my head: Mmmmmhhhhhh. This is great! Can I have more? Another, maybe not as great, Thanksgiving memory is when I was down in Birmingham(Sorry Miss Holliday I like it ,but it is not Nashville) my mom, dad, sister, brother and me had Little Ceaser's pizza for Thanksgiving dinner. These are the highlights of my Thanksgivings.

  41. I had the most wonderful Thanksgiving this year. My mom made her home chess pie. One of my favorite thing I did was help make food with my mom. We all got to use my mom favorite plates and we never get to use those. My favorite memory was when my I got to say the prayer for the first time ever. These are my Thanksgiving memory for this year that were most important.

  42. My Thanksgiving Break was pretty BORING. Half the break was lying on the couch doing absolutly nothing, until Wednesday. I went hunting with a family friend, his son, and Clayton Pickens. Because of my concusion, I didn't get to run the Boulevard Bolt with my family. Instead I had to stay at my grandmother's house with my younger cousins and watch the Thanksgiving Day parade on tv. The highlight of my week was watching Alabama destroy Auburn, which still involved sitting on the couch. Although I had SOME fun, it was'nt the best break ever.

  43. My Thanksgiving break was very fun! I got to spend time with my cousins playing football. It was so much fun that we almost stayed outside the entire day. Another memory that I will have is eating my Meemaw's turkey. It was amazing! I loved getting to watch football with my dad, uncle, aunt, cousin, and Peepaw. Although Auburn lost we still had a great time as a family. On Sunday we got to decorate the Christmas tree. I love putting on my favorite ornaments. Aubie Claus and Santa Spidey! I like decorating the tree because the ornaments make me and my sister laugh when we remember how we got the ornaments. Overall my break was so much fun.

  44. My favorite memory of Thanksgiving is every year we go to my cousin's house. For dinner I always eat a turkey leg. Those legs are huge and have a lot bones in them.My second favorite memory from this year, is when my brother, Cole, announced that he and his wife are expecting triplets. That was really big news especially since we already have Logan and Harper and Knox. I just hope for the sake of our family, one day I don't come in and say I'm expecting quadruplets.

Thanksgiving is always a great day for me. We always go to either my grandparents house, or my other grandmothers house. This year, we went to Memphis. My grandparents live there. On the day of thanksgiving, we drive to Bay, Arkansas. I will always remember seeing my cousins. Sometimes I even have new cousins! Every year when we go to Bay, Arkansas, I remember walking through the door into the house and everyone looking and saying "Oh look! Catherine's here!" I LOVE thanksgiving!!!

  48. Throughout the years, my family and I have created many memories. One of the memorable things we did this year was breaking the wish bone. My grandmother always saves it for my brother and me. We anxiously wait for the bone to dry before we can snap it in half. Once it was ready, my brother brought the bone into my room and told me it was time. When we broke it in half, I was the one who got the side in which your wish would come true. I am eagerly awaiting until next year to see if my luck continues. Another tradition we had over Thanksgiving break this year was watching the Christmas movie, "Elf." We always watch "Elf" as our first movie to get us into the Christmas spirit. This was the first time that we had put our tree up after Thanksgiving, so I was pleasantly surprised when my mom suggested that we go ahead and watch "Elf." I really enjoyed this year's Thanksgiving break and can't wait to see what Thanksgiving memories we will make in the future.

  49. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my mom's family this year and got to stay in Nashville. My two brothers and I went to the farm with my grandfather. This is one of my favorite things to do because we get to ride the four wheeler all over the farm, laughing and screaming the whole time. We came back and had a delicious Thanksgiving lunch cooked by my mom and grandmother. My favorite dishes were my mom's sweet potato casserole and of course, the turkey. One thing that was different than any other year was that we are now a family of 6! My new sister, Margaret, makes every family event so much fun. Everybody loves to be around her because she laughs all the time. I hope that we will get to make more family memories that will be as fun as the ones we made this Thanksgiving.

  51. Our Thanksgiving is no small thing. I mean, EVERYBODY comes that is even distantly related. I don't know half the people there. Each year, we play some interesting and interactive games. Normaly, Aunt Debbie and G-pa organize the games. This year, we played "Wits And Wagers," a betting game in which you write your answer on a white board, and bet on which answer is correct. The correct tile is either the closest one without going over, or the exact answer. We also played a game in which our family makes a big circle, and we toss a tennis ball around the circle to random people, calling out their names as we do so. You memorize who throws you it and who you throw to, and then you add balls, until you get to 6 tennis balls. Every year we also have an Annual Cornhole Tournament. We pair up evenly, and we play to the top. Mainly, my cousin, Garret, wins. It really doesn't matter who his partner is. He wins.

I went to my uncle Beto's house and got to see my cousins Destiny and Dezien. Destiny is fourteen and Dezien is ten. We went to the barn and were playing with the pony's they had. We ate mac & cheese, turkey, ham, cupcakes, pecan pie, and bread.
My second thing I did this Thanksgiving is...
My cousins and I had a sleepover and we made gingerbread cookies and watched a movie. Then we went to bed at 1:05am and my brother slept on a couch with me, and my cousins slept on a couch too, and at 2:04 Christian, my brother went to sleep with our cousins so there was one on a couch and three on the other couch so it was so funny.

  57. I love Thanksgiving! I look toward it every year! one of the times I remember we were waiting to get our turkey. After an hour my mom called my brother and dad and asked them where they were. They said they were still waiting for our turkey. After another round of an hour. We called them back. This time, my mom was really furious for waiting. So my mom told my dad to go up there and asked what was taking the turkey so long, they said they lost our order! So we had no choice but to just get a raw turkey and my mom would just have to cook it. My mom was not very happy about this idea but we did it anyway!
