The Adventure of the Speckled Band

Now that we have read the story and watched the movie, I'd like to know how you felt about them. Did you like one of them better? What differences did you notice? Please use at least three complete sentences with enough details that we can understand which parts you are describing.  This assignment is due on Friday, August 31.

  1. The book I think was better because you can't mumble in a book .The movie had some parts where you couldn't understand them very well.A good thing about the movie is that they showed you something you don't really understand in the book. That's why I like the book better than the movie. But both were very well descripted.

  2. I liked it but at some points I just didn't like it in the book or the movie. But my favorite part was when Dr.Roylott died because he purposely killed Julia when she did nothing wrong. He just wanted the money that she would get when she got married. And I liked the part where Sherlock Holmes hit the snake with something in the movie. But they could of had the sister die a little shorter in the movie cause in the book she die like right after she got bit.

  10. I really enjoyed the Speckled Band but I liked the book more than the movie. The book made things scarier and easier to understand. The movie was not bad but everything is better in a book. My favorite part is when Holmes says "Watson, you will need your pistol, and your toothbrush" in the movie.

  11. I definitely like the movie better than the book. The movie had more details and it also showed the scenes so you could see exactly what it looked like. In the book, it said Julia's death took about 10 seconds but in the movie, it took longer. Both the movie and book were great.

  12. I liked the book better. Something different was in the movie Dr. Roylett's face got red and didn't think it would. Julia Stoner didn't die in 10 seconds like in the book. They called the cheetah a jaguar or a panther.

  13. I enjoyed the book and the movie. But the movie was best because In the book I could imagine the scenes in the my head. The movie had so many more details like Sherlock Holmes' funny accent when he said, "baboon" and "Watson, ready your pistol." Also, in the movie Holmes flat tore up the snake with his cane. When I was reading the book I imagined Holmes being much less aggressive.

  17. I liked the book better because I could understand it more. The movie was cool because you could see how the people that made it thought it would look. But there were parts that I didn't know what it might look like and the movie helped me with that. I like at the credits when you see Holmes fighting the snake to get it away in light, because in the dark you just see Holmes and Watson in the dark. I loved the Speckled Band!

  26. Now normally I like the book better but this is an exception. I liked the movie better because the book was to short for me to enjoy. I imagined the screams more horrifying and blood chilling. I also think, correct me please if I am wrong, in the book they were wrong with a cheetah coming from India. I want to see Holmes vs The Dr. in a fist fight or a wrestling match. I liked the end with it showing what happened when Holmes smacked the snake. The sister took to long to die in the movie.

  32. I loved the book I just wasn't that interested in the movie. I noticed though, that in the movie Holmes is very diffrent than I pictures him in my head. Watson was sleeping when they we're at the house which surprised me. Also, the book would stop at the good parts and I sort of like that, cause it just makes you want to read on.

  35. I liked the book better because the book was more descriptive than the movie. One difference I noticed was that the book said the snake venom took only ten seconds to take effect, but it took longer in the movie. My favorite part was when the snake killed Dr. Roylott and the shocked look on his face.

  36. I think that the book was better because it was alot more descrptive. In the book it says the venom was supost to kill in ten seconds but in the movie julia walk aroud for what seemed like 50 seconds. Also the snake was more trained then I thought. I dont know why but the movie seemed much shorter than I exspected. My favorite part was when the baboon walk right in front of holmes.
